Food Thoughts

Our story

Over 30 years
of better baking

Food Thoughts
How it all began…

Food Thoughts began in the 1980s with a single cocoa powder, created in partnership with Oxfam to bring the UK its first premium-quality, fairly traded cocoa.

Food Thoughts

Uncompromising quality

Since then, our range has grown to include Cocoa and Cacao Powders, Chocolate Chips, Cake Mixes and Frostings, but the thinking behind everything we make has stayed the same: exceptional quality, thoughtful sourcing and products made to deliver beautiful results.

Food Thoughts

Today

Today, owners Mark and Jason continue that philosophy from our home in the North West of England, with a shared belief that baking can be both beautiful and ethical.

What we believe

Spectacular results,
MADE SIMPLER.

Our mission is simple: to develop the best-quality home baking products that deliver exceptional, chef-quality results for everyone, from experienced bakers to first timers.

We thoughtfully source our ingredients and carefully craft our products so that the quality is already built in. All that’s left is the enjoyable part: making something delicious.

Food Thoughts

THOUGHTFULLY SOURCED

We choose ingredients for their quality, provenance and the people behind them.

Our products are developed with care, expertise and a genuine love of baking.

Quality by nature

Better ingredients.
Better bakes.

From single-origin cocoa sourced from the Dominican Republic to carefully developed cake mixes and frostings, quality sits at the heart of every Food Thoughts product.

Our Organic Cocoa Powder, for example, is made using prized Fino de Aroma cocoa beans and selected from some of the world’s highest-quality cocoa.

Thoughtfully sourced

Better baking
should do better, too.

For more than four decades, Food Thoughts has supported cocoa farmers in the Dominican Republic through our commitment to fairly traded organic products, helping farmers receive a fairer price and work in safer conditions.

That responsibility extends beyond the ingredients we source. We are also a certified member of 1% for the Planet, committing 1% of our annual sales, not profits, to approved environmental organisations.

Food Thoughts

Proud member of 1% for the Planet

1% for the Planet was founded on a simple principle: businesses that benefit from the planet’s resources should also help protect them. As a member, Food Thoughts pledges 1% of annual sales directly to approved environmental partners working to protect communities, habitats and the natural world.

SEACOLOGY

Protecting habitats and communities in the Dominican Republic

Through Seacology, we help fund community projects that protect important local habitats, including the Higuamo River Basin and its mangrove forests, home to endangered Antillean manatees.

Food Thoughts

FARM URBAN

Supporting a greener future closer to home.

Based in the North West of England like us, Farm Urban works to make towns and cities greener, healthier and more inclusive through sustainable food production, education and urban farming.

Food Thoughts

BORNEO ORANGUTAN SURVIVAL

Protecting orangutans and their rainforest home

Unsustainable palm oil production contributes to rainforest loss in Borneo. Mark and Jason have long supported efforts to remove it from the food chain, making Borneo Orangutan Survival an important cause for Food Thoughts.

The organisation rescues, rehabilitates and reintroduces orangutans into protected rainforest, while helping safeguard their habitat for the future.
